Single-Photon Cooling
In this talk I will describe in detail the method of single-photon cooling. It is based on the concept of a "one-way wall" for atoms and molecules, and realizes a proposal by Leo Szilard from 1929. The experimental demonstration is with rubidium atoms, and I will show how the same method can be generally applied to atoms and molecules that can be trapped.
