The GRE General Examination is required and the Physics Examination is strongly recommended. International applicants from non-English speaking countries should also include evidence of proficiency in the English language. You may submit results from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or (preferably) the test administered by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Prospective students are advised to have their application complete by January 15 for admission in the following Fall semester. Although applications are accepted year-round, practically all decisions concerning financial aid are made early in the spring semester.

International students for whom it is not possible to obtain the U.S. currency required for the application fee, may apply informally by sending all application materials, including the application form and all official transcripts, recommendation letters, test scores, and personal statement of research interests, to the Physics Department:

Attn:  Nicole Hryvniak
Graduate Affairs Committee
Department of Physics
2152 Hillside Road, Unit 3046
University of Connecticut
Storrs CT 06269-3046
USA
In exceptional circumstances, the Graduate Affairs Committee may contact particularly strong informal international applicants and may make arrangements for loaning the application fee.
